General Election - November 4, 2008

The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008. To be eligible to vote in this election, you must be registered to vote no later than October 6th, 2008, which is the close of registration for this election. If you need to register to vote, please click here.

 

If you are interested in receiving an absentee voter ballot, you will need to fill out an application first. In order to be eligible for an absentee voter ballot, you must fulfill one of the following:

 

• be 60 years or older (if interested, permanent listing is available, please see below);

• be absent from the community in which you are registered for the entire time the polls are open on election day;

• be physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another;

• be unable to attend the polls due to the tenets of your religion;

• have been appointed an election precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where you reside; or

• be confined to jail awaiting arraignment or trial.

 

Applications can be picked up at the Township office or requested via phone, fax or email. Please include your full name, address where you are registered to vote and a phone number. When we receive that, we will send you an application that you will need to fill out and return in order to be eligible to receive the absentee voter ballot when they are available. If you are 60 years of age or older, you can request to be placed on our permanent absentee voter list. What this means, is that when an election is coming up, we will automatically send you the application to receive a ballot when they are available.

 

To register to vote, you may visit any Secretary of State branch office (please be sure to sign the registration form). To get more information online, click the link below. You may also register in person at the Township office from 9am-5pm . If you use a mail-in application, you will be required to vote in person the first time and will not be eligible for an absentee voter ballot.

To register to vote you must be:

• a U.S. citizen;

• at least 18 years of age by election day;

• a resident of Michigan and the city or township where you are applying to register to vote.
