Spring Arbor Township Board - February 6, 2008

  The meeting was convened at the request of Brent Williams to discuss the issues relating to the 2008-09 budget. Trustees present were Brent Williams, Troy Ganton, Marston Fortress, and Patricia Short. Absent: Supervisor Will DeGraaf, Clerk Randi Holthouse, and Treasurer Gloria Melchiori.

  By consensus, the Trustees agreed that the officers and employees of Spring Arbor Township receive a 2.3% cost of living wage increase for 2008-09. It was suggested during the discussion that for future budgets that job descriptions for each job be created and that employees be given raises based upon their performance as evaluated by their supervisor. The Board would set the ranges of raises.

  By consensus, the Trustees agreed that the Public Safety Board should review compensation of the Fire Chief for fire runs he makes after normal working hours and forward report/recommendation to the Board.

  Other issues discussed:

  That the Supervisor convene the Public Safety Committee to determine the future fire/police plan, the personnel and equipment necessary to implement the plan, and the revenue necessary to fund it. One specific question: Determine the exact date that the current fire millage expires and the date the final revenue amount is to be transferred.

  Develop a policy to accept the resignation of an officer or trustee, inform the community, advertise for applicants, interview the applicants, and make the appointment. For the current position of Supervisor, the Trustees agree that the Board should set a date for interviews of ½ hour per candidate, deliberate, and notify the applicants of our choice that same night.
