Spring Arbor Township Budget Hearing-Five Year Plans: December 2, 2004:

The meeting was called to order by Supervisor DeGraaf at 7:08.

Board members present: Will DeGraaf, Gloria Melchiori, Patricia Short

Department heads: Police Chief, Russ Ratkiewicz and Fire Chief Tim McEldowney .

The purpose of the meeting: "at a special budget-building meeting, Township trustees, officers and employees will meet to review and revise the long-range plan to reflect the next "five years, and make recommendations of new initiatives for the next fiscal budget."

Police Department:

2005-06:      Digital camera to save dollars in printing and expedite photo copy - $600

                  Original carpet replaced in police office.

                  Two bullet-proof vests - $900

                  Access to Sheriffs Computer Care technology - $800

                  Overhead Light bar and safety light to show when trunk if open -$1,300.

2006-07       Hire another full-time officer
                  Purchase new car

                  Institute a Neighborhood Watch Program

                  Replace 2 uniforms     $200

2007-08       Filing system to be converted to electronic storage and Evidence                        Storage area

                  M-16 rifles

2008-09       Hire another officer

2009-??       Build a new Police Building

Fire Department:

2005-06       Rather than replace the grass truck as it only has 8,000 miles,                                 remove the fire pump, place on a skid so that it may be put on and

                       off and used for other township needs

                  Hire another full-time fire fighter as day-time runs exceeds night runs

                       by 50%

                  Based upon assessment: Replace roof and repair concrete apron in front

                       of fire station

2009-10       Air Compressor for Scott PACS: $28,000

Treasurer:

2005-06       New printer

                  New cash register system

                  Purchase fireproof cabintes to meet state requirement

2006-07       Simultaneous work loads of sewer/water and taxes requires two full-time

                       employees

                  Eliminate persons accepting payments who do the billing. Auditors warn

                       it exposes us to fraud.
