Township Goals

Expand sewer and water system based on township land use plan, populations study and economics. Expansion plan document to be completed by March 1, 2003. Assigned to Supervisor DeGraaf.

Reduce crime (as measured by crime per resident) in the township, especially vandalism, larceny, traffic violations, breaking and entering, assaults, drug problems and weapons violations. Ongoing. Assigned to Chief Ratkiewicz

Develop public safety ordinances that will improve the quality of life and help reduce crime in the township. Model ordinance to be presented to the board by July 1, 2000. The ordinances were effective on April 21, 2000. Assigned to Chief Ratkiewicz.

Increase police involvement with programs in the local schools. Initiated by September 1, 2001. Inactive due to lack of funds. Assigned to Chief Ratkiewicz.

Develop plan with MDOT for traffic flow on M-60. Completed by January 1, 2003. Assigned to Supervisor DeGraaf.

Design long-term plan for fire equipment replacement, maintenance and upgrades to meet need arising from growth. Plan to be presented by September 1, 2000. Completed in October 2000. Assigned to Chief Greenslade.

Create fire safety plan for the township that addresses response time, hazardous materials inventory, youth and adult education, personnel training, and reporting system. Complete by January 1, 2001. Assigned to Chief Greenslade.

Review and revise park plan by June 1, 2000. Completed by September 2000. Assigned to Clerk DeVries.

Implement park plan by September 1, 2002. Assigned to Clerk DeVries.
Analyze township office operations, assess unmet needs, and identify operations improvements. Complete by September 1, 2001. Recommendations made in July 2000. Assigned to Clerk DeVries.

Review and revise zoning ordinance and long-range land use plan. Complete by June 30, 2003. Assigned to Trustee Fortress/Planning Commission.

Collaborate with County to enhance senior citizen programs at the Senior Center. Ongoing. Assigned to Supervisor DeGraaf and Trustee Ganton.

Improve communications with constituents to increase citizen input, community understanding of township government, and expand awareness of township activities and initiatives. Improved communications plan to be developed by September 1, 2000. Plan presented in November 2000. Assigned to Trustee Short/Policy & Communications Committee.

Review traffic flow and develop a plan for township office area to reduce accident risk, and improve traffic flow. Complete by June 1, 2000. Implemented changes in September 2000 and June 2001. Assigned to Chief Ratkiewicz.
