UNDER-AGE
DRINKING:
The
Spring Arbor Police Department, Parma-Sandstone Police Department,
and Concord Police will be participating in a county-wide federal
grant focusing on under-age drinking. The enforcement period
will run though September 30, 2006.
The
Western School District and Concord Schools will be supporting the
three agencies by educating the students and community on the effects
of under-age drinking and the possible ramifications involved with
students. The consequences could be costly from a student
stand-point, ranging from school suspension, expulsion and/or termination
of all athletic involvement, or even the loss of scholarships.
Under-age
drinking also affects the community; when minors drink and drive,
the community is put at risk, as the potential for a serious traffic
accident or even a fatality is dramatically increased.
VULNERABLE
ADULT ABUSE:
What
is Vulnerable Adult Abuse? It is harming or creating serious
risk of harm for someone who is an older adult, or a person with
a physical or mental disability. Thousands of Michigan's vulnerable
adults are abused, neglected and exploited every year. Many
victims suffer in silence out of fear, shame, dependence on their
caregiver or because they do not know there is help available.
