Supervisor:
Marston
Fortress, was appointed to the Spring Arbor Township
Planning Commission in 1986. Being involved in the Township was
interesting to him so he ran for Trustee in 1988 and has been elected
ever since to the Township Board. Marston has lived in the Spring
Arbor area for over 30 years with his wife Shar, who have been married
for 35 years and have two children, Marty and Marcy. Marty is married
to Gina and they have two children, and Marcy is married to Jason
and they have 3 children. Currently, he chairs the Township’s
Planning Commission, and also serves on the Township’s Sewer
& Water Committee and the Policy & Communications Committee.
Marston received an Associates degree from Jackson Community College
in Accounting and then pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
at Michigan State University. Prior to his current employment at
Plastigage as controller, he was employed by Harvard Industries
for 34 years. Marston has attended the Spring Arbor Free Methodist
Church for nearly 55 years and has served on numerous boards and
committees during that time. Relaxation for the Fortress’
is spending a portion of the summer in their travel trailer at Somerset
Beach Campground, and they enjoy traveling and spending time with
grandkids. As an alumnus of MSU, Marston and his wife are frequent
fans at their football and basketball games. “I have thoroughly
enjoyed the years spent serving the residents of Spring Arbor Township.
I always try to base my decisions around the philosophy of the greatest
benefit for the greatest number of people. I will continue to work
hard toward keeping our community a fine place to live and work.”
Paula
Weiman , the Administrative Assistant/Utility Billing
Clerk, started with Spring Arbor Township in April 2006.
Clerk:
Randi Holthouse has served the
community for almost a decade and has lived in the Spring Arbor
area for 16 years. “It’s been an enjoyable time serving
the community and getting to know the people here. There is so much
to learn about township government; keeping up with all the laws
and the new changes keeps me on my toes.” Randi has two children:
Erin and Matthew. Erin is a freshman at Albion College and a member
of the cheerleading squad, and Matthew is a senior at Concord High
School. She is a graduate of Jackson Community College with two
Associate degrees, one in Business Management and the other in Marketing.
Randi is on two township committees, chairing the Park Committee
and serving as secretary of the Policy & Communications Committee.
She is also a Jackson County Parks Commissioner, a charter member
of the Jackson County Parks Association, and a member of the County
Clerks Association, having served as president for three years and
secretary for one year. In addition to local activities, Randi is
the District Director for the area on the Michigan Townships Association
Board of Directors and serves on various committees for the association.
Prior to working for the township, Randi was employed by Camp International
as the Inventory Manager. Keeping up with her children’s activities
keeps her on the go, but in her spare time she enjoys needlework
projects, crafts, walking her dog, reading, cooking and spending
time with family and friends.
Mary
Ley , the Deputy Clerk, started with Spring Arbor Township
in December 2007. Mary's duties include updating the Township's
web site, helping run township elections and assisting Clerk Randi
Holthouse. Mary has lived with her family in Concord for over 30
years.
Treasurer:
Gloria
Melchiori has been the Township Treasurer since May 1993,
bringing nineteen years of banking experience to this position.
She is a former Lab and X-Ray technician, who put that profession
on hold to raise a family. Currently, her three children and two
grandchildren’s sporting events are a full-time pastime. However,
she does manage to squeeze in gardening, reading, arts and crafts
and collectibles, especially angels. Gloria serves on the Memorial
Day Parade Committee for the Township and is a member of the County
Treasurer’s Association. “I’ve been fortunate
to work in a capacity that enables me to serve the public with compassion,
fairness and integrity; and the reward is the honesty, courtesy,
and friendliness shown by the residents of Spring Arbor, making
it a “win-win” environment.”
Cindy
Sherwood , the Deputy Treasurer, has been with the Township
since April 2008.
Paula
Wieman, the Sewer and Water Clerk, has been with the Township since
April 2006.
Assessing & Zoning:
Julie
Pulling, Comes
to us with experience in Assessment Administration since 1994.
Julie is a member of the Jackson County Assessor’s Association,
Secretary of the Mid-Michigan Association of Assessing Officers
as well as a member of Michigan Assessor’s Association. She is
a State of Michigan Level 3 Assessor which is a four year educational
program through the State of Michigan as well as having a Certificate
of Completion from the Assessment Administration program at Lansing
Community College where she also attained an Associates Degree.
The
biggest accomplishment according to Julie is her faith, family and
farm. A mother of two and wife to husband James since 1982 is
what gives her “bragging rights”. Julie’s decision to come to
Spring Arbor was directly due to her family. Not only does this
give her more time with her family, she is able to work on the Pulling
Farm more often.
Julie
is typically at the Township office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
She is more than happy to discuss your assessment questions as
well as the constant legislative changes. Please feel free to
call anytime, 517-750-2800 ext. 231 or visit her at the Township
Hall 107 Teft Rd., Spring Arbor.
Trustees:
Brent Williams joined the township board as a Trustee in the Spring
of 2001. “I wanted to be on the Township Board because I’d
like to see Spring Arbor stay somewhat the way it is; I like growth
but I also like the small town atmosphere. My grandfather served
on the Board for 16 years, and I don’t think it’s right
to sit back and complain and then not be involved.” Brent
has lived in the Spring Arbor area all of his life and graduated
from Western High School in 1986. During the next ten years, he
alternated his time between working on the family farm and driving
race cars. He was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association
for four years and served as the president of the association for
three of those years. He is currently on the board of the Florence
Crittenton Home in Jackson and serves as the secretary for the Township
Sewer & Water Committee. Brent owns and operates the Williams
Brothers Family Farm along with his father John Williams and his
brother Shane Williams. Farming the 1,000 plus acres keeps Brent
working long hours, but he still finds time to spend with Amy and
their new daughter, Ashley. He also enjoys the annual trip that
he and his family make to Iowa for the Knoxville Nationals Sprint
Car races. Other activities for the spare time in his life include
hunting and working out at the YMCA.
