The Spring Arbor Christmas Decoration Story

Recently the Spring Arbor Planning Commission conducted a random survey for the Master Plan as was required by State Statues. There were comments received regarding the age of our Christmas decorations along M-60. The fact of the matter is......they are old!

The decorations were purchased 24 years ago with funds that were donated by businessmen and individuals so as not to use taxpayer funds. The decorations have over time been bruised, battered and subjected to all kinds of weather. The garland is shedding more each year, the wiring is developing shorts and the bulb sockets are falling off. The replacement sockets only work on the new heavier insulated wire.

Bronner's gave us a frame they had taken out of service so we could build a decoration after the Crossing was developed Parts now are no longer available and if they were it would cost about 85% of what the new decorations run.

We agree with the concerned citizens.

The Spring Arbor Board of Trustees was approached regarding the replacement of the Christmas decorations with new energy efficient LED equipped units. The Board responded favorably, establishing a comittee to pursue the selction of new decorations and procurement of funds.
We are soliciting funds for the purchase of new decorations in January 2012. Purchasing in January allows us to take advantage of significant post-season discounts. We believe the residents and businesses in Spring Arbor Township will respond to this project, and will provide the $12,000 needed to upgrade the appearance, reliability and energy savings of our Christmas decorations.
